Dr. Tom Taylor

As we are sure you are aware, Dr. Tom Taylor fell ill a couple of weeks ago. Please use this thread to share your good wishes and thoughts with him during his recovery. Also, please share any stories you have of Dr. Taylor, in which he made an impact on you or made you laugh. He did win 'Professor of the Year" last year, so tell us why. We are sure Dr. Taylor will be back in the classroom very soon, until then, the English Club wishes him a speedy recovery.

I consider myself very lucky to have had a chance to talk and work with TT, and I look forward to continuing to meet with TT after he recovers. He always went out of his way to talk with me about Beckett and other various topics. He even took me out for coffee one evening to discuss Waiting for Godot -- a Beckett play. I encourage all English majors to talk to Tom when he returns to campus -- he'll be just as eager to learn from you as you are from him. But trust me, you'll learn way more from him!

I had the pleasure of sharing an office with Dr. Taylor last year. I found him to be a brilliant and engaging man. Lord knows what he found me to be. As most of you have no doubt figured out by now, I am rarely the most knowledgable nor wisest person in the room. Dr. Taylor was usually kind enough to talk to me anyways, and though he usually lost me by conversation's end, I felt I learned something important from him every day. I should have learned more.
I could tell that his students admired and respected him, not only for his abilities as a teacher, but also as someone who honestly seemed to care about them and respect them. Dr. Taylor appeared to grasp that students need to be constantly challenged, and that, in the end, is what I believe students tend to regard as the most helpful and valuable intangible an instructor can give to them. It is little wonder he won the award.

I haven't had a chance to take a class with Dr. Taylor, but I met him at last year's initial English Club meeting, and he was very warm and funny. He also showed his humble and giving side when he shared his "Professor of the Year" award with his friend, Prof. Delagrange.
So, get well soon Dr. Taylor, I look forward to working with you sometime soon.

I consider myself to be very lucky to have taken Dr Taylor's english class. He is a brilliant man who challenged me to become a better writer, thinker, and person. He is by far one of my favorite professors, and I want to thank him for being such an excellent instructor and human being. When I "grow up" I hope that I can influence a young person the way that he has influenced me.
