History

Steroid use has evolved into a kind of culture over the past decade. Steroids become more popular in the late 1960's and early 1970's with the introduction of the Mr. Olympia competitions. Mr. Olympia is a world wide competition which judges men on the definition and tone of their muscle. Competetors found that anabolic steroids containing cholesterol, corticosteroids, and sex hormones built muscle faster and also with less training. The components within these drugs such as corticosteroids helps to balance electrolytes and also to balance the amount of gluclose in the blood. Cholesterol helps to add rigidity to cell membranes which is an important role in the formation of bile acids, and Vitamin D. Sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen are vital components of muscle development and most steroids will contain one or both. All these compntents are important substances in the growth of muscle but the also can be harmful ,and have many side effects on he body.
