Time Period: 2001 (war continues)
Type of Intolerance: Religion vs Secular Group
7:00am. It seemed like a somewhat normal day. 12:00pm. It was anything but. September 11, 2001 is a day that will live forever in the hearts and minds of all Americans as one that made the world a whole lot larger. It brought patriotism to this country with an impact arguably no seen since the times of World War II. The threat of an enemy thousands of miles away attacking became an unwanted reality and US citizens immediately set out to make things right.
Attackers and terrorists such as those from the militant group Al Queda claimed that the assault was somehow 'serving Islam', a fact that forced more anger into the hearts of Americans. Some citizens finally saw that they had a legitimate group to attack for the horrific 9/11 events and did so swiftly. The military set out on middle-eastern wars in order to attack the terrorists while many americans at home set out to attack anyone looking like they were similar to the attackers. More information on the results of 9/11 and of the American perception of the islamic faith can be found in the Present section, along with what role the government is playing here at home.
