This is a map of the hypertext Chasing our Tails by Mark Bernstein.

Obviously this is a more than a simple top-down structure. Although it could be described as hierarchical in that the position of each lexia in the map is fixed, the navigation possibilities are expanded by cross-links and multiple links per page. The path each reader takes through the text differs, and therefore the text each reader experiences differs. In addition, some of the links go outside the Chasing our Tails Web, expontentially increasing possible connections.
