Had myself a nice big slice of apple pie Alamo (sorry, stupid joke). Back from the CCCC in San Antonio, where the weather was clement, the people were hospitable, and the Riverwalk emitted this ersatz Epcot Center aura. All in all, a good time was had by everyone I've talked to, even and especially myself.

Our Wednesday afternoon workshop on how to develop a visual culture curriculum within the framework of a composition pedagogy was well attended (33 in all, I believe). Almost as well attended (30 folks) was my panel presentation, where Scott DeWitt presented on integrating new media projects in the composition class, Doug Dangler opined on the benefits/drawbacks to using different IM applications for online writing center tutorials, and I gave an historical account of how 19th century American compositionists developed a highly prescriptive approach to writing paragraphs that coincides with the growing dominance of print culture (the aesthetic of print gets folded back onto handwriting, in a nutshell). Fun times for all.
* This entry's title is a reference to a conversation overheard at the Alamo, where two young boys sat transfixed by the beautiful koi fish swimming around the moat, until one of them happened upon an ingenious, yet nefarious, plan.

Headed off to the CCCC. Hope to see some of you there!
I've been on Spring break all last week. More posts to come...
