From Buzz to Brutus: The Transformation Commences

First of all, congratulations to Boston Rob and Amber. I guess they deserve it. And on top of that, I'm back in Cowtown, having finished my stint as a Marion L. Brittain Fellow at Georgia Tech. I'm looking forward to seeing how the program evolves over the next few years; it's in a transitional phase, and most of us current Britts had a lot to offer in the way of feedback. I, for one, would like to see the ePed program become a research consortium of sorts, a kind of free-floating body of visiting scholars bound by a mission statement to produce scholarship relating to the investigation of digital technologies in the pursuit of teaching writing/new media design. With such genuinely cutting-edge projects going on in the Skiles building, forming collaborative partnerships with the Britts might make for a productive and prestigue-enhancing situation all around. A quick list of the exciting projects going on in the LCC underground:

LACI--The Laboratory for Advanced Computer Initiatives

EGL--The Experimental Game Lab

TML--The Topological Media Lab

The Wesley Center for New Media

The BioMedia Studio

I've had a ball, and to anyone from the GT side of the fence reading this blog, let me offer my sincere gratitude to you for helping me feel a welcome part of that community. I hope to work with many of these people in the future; maybe even as soon as next year, if our NEH Summer Institute grant proposal "New Media and/in the Humanities" is accepted. In the meantime, enjoy your summertime humidity, Atlanta. ;-)
