Mission Statement

The Writing Center provides free, one-on-one tutoring to all members of the Ohio State University community:  students, faculty, and staff.  We work with writers from all levels of experience, ability, and expertise, and we can read and respond to texts written for any course of study.  

Our goal is to help students and others become better writers. Toward that end, writing center tutors emphasize writing as a process. They help writers come up with and organize ideas, then plan, draft, revise, and edit their essays and reports. Since writing is a rhetorical act, tutors also help writers craft their work to fit their audience and purpose.
